SCOTT FREEMAN
Author & illustrator of Naomi’s Gift

Christmas at our house is a big deal. A part of what makes the season special for us is that we have accumulated a collection of great Christmas books over the years. We only bring them out at Christmastime, and we all look forward to hearing their stories again every year. As a family of artists, we especially look for and appreciate great illustrations in a storybook.

Some of our favorites are Robert Sabuda’s The Christmas Alphabet; The Christmas Story According to the Gospels of Luke and Matthew illustrated by Gennady Spirin; The Christmas Miracle of Jonathon Toomey written by Susan Wojciechowski and illustrated by PJ Lynch; Santa Calls by William Joyce; The Nutcracker illustrated by Carter Goodrich; Francesca Crespi’s The Nativity – A Glorious Pop-up Book; The Nativity illustrated by Julie Vivas; and Chris Van Allsburg’s The Polar Express. Also, Mollie and I have some old Golden Books from our childhood days that we like to see.

From the time we began reading to our children it has been a small dream of mine to write and illustrate a Christmas storybook that would bless others the way I have been blessed. When the door of opportunity opened recently, I knew I wanted to illustrate Dr. Frederic Loomis’ story, The Tiny Foot - the most beautiful sanctity of life story I have heard. You can read about how and why I adapted this story that became Naomi’s Gift in my author’s note. My hope is that Naomi’s Gift will gladden childlike hearts for years to come.

Scott Freeman is a fine art painter and illustrator.  He divides his time between landscape painting in the Rocky Mountains, teaching art classes in his studio, and storytelling in one form or another.  Naomi’s Gift is Scott’s second illustrated storybook for children.  He has also illustrated The Swimsuit Lesson, a children’s book designed to be a resource to help parents guide their children in avoiding sexual abuse.

Scott and his artist wife, Mollie, make their home in Loveland, Colorado.  They live with their five children, two pugs, and a fat-tailed gecko named Zack.
