WORSHIP PAINTING PHYSICAL THEATRE SPEED PAINTING VISUAL STORYTELLING
Scott Freeman is a fine art painter whose award-winning work is exhibited in galleries and collected throughout the United States. In addition, Scott has been speaking and painting before live audiences since 1999. While he occasionally does live painting in secular venues, he is most frequently asked to perform in church settings.
His spritually focused pieces might best be described as storytelling with paint, music, and movement. Scott's performances are unique in that he does not simply create a painting on stage. Each piece is a stunning theatrical, yet spiritual experience, having a beginning, a middle, and an end. It is storytelling as you've never before seen it. All pieces are written, choreographed and performed by the artist.
"Every artistic medium has its own unique merits" says Scott. "The medium of live painting seems to have the potential to engage the heart of the viewer in a way that words or music alone cannot. It's as though the audience sees the Word of God come to life before their eyes, and they experience His revelation in a fresh and profound way. My hope is to present the church with something that goes beyond sentimentality, and to help people become intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually engaged with God and His revealed Truth."
"I have seen many different Easter plays, dramas, etc. and yet this was the first portrayal that brought me to unquenched tears...No words were uttered, no verbal suggestions were made, no scripture was read, no thorns, no nails, no beatings - just paint, dance, music and light and a woman was touched by God." - S.S. Ft. Collins, CO
"The auditorium, though filled to capacity with people, young and old, was so silent you could hear a pin drop!...When it was over, people were so moved that several left the auditorium in tears. It was a truly awe inspiring event and one that will live with Susan and me forever." - J.K. Berthoud, CO
Following are descriptions and photos of pieces choreographed and performed by Scott:
PARABLE OF THE MUSTARD SEED - Jesus addressed His audience using parables to explain what the long-awaited kingdom of God would be like. Most had preconceptions and self-seeking motives which hindered them from seeing the kingdom unfolding before their eyes. This is still true today. The Parable of the Mustard Seed is a beautiful and deeply moving piece that follows a man searching for the Messiah on his own terms. We follow him through stages of rebellion, recognition, remorse, repentance, and finally, rebirth and submission to a loving God. Running time 12 min.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WORLD - Yahweh God, as He has revealed Himself in scripture, is unique among all the religions and gods of the world. By nature He is infinite, having no beginning, yet He is not merely an impersonal force. His triune nature means He is eternally relational, having existed in loving relationship even before the world was created. A Brief History of the World follows God's history of relationship with man, beginning with creation and the fall, and culminating with the bride of Jesus, the church. This piece contains both creepy and lighthearted moments. Running time 30 min.

YEARNING TO BREATHE FREE is a speed-painting piece especially appropriate for holidays and events which focus on the blessings of freedom. I didn't really want to get into speed-painting as it is kind of gimmicky, but I have to admit it is fun to watch (and perform). Running time 10 min.

NAOMI'S GIFT - This is a dramatic recitation of Scott's recently published Christmas storybook, Naomi's Gift. Adapted from a true story, Naomi's Gift tells the story of a doctor's struggle within himself over his decision to deliver a severely deformed baby into the world. While there is no actual painting going on during this performance, Scott's beautiful book illustrations serve as a backdrop to this moving story. Running time 20 min.
